Beavers belong to the family Castoridae. The modern genus is Castor. There are 2 living species across the north. Their orange incisors grow continuously through life. A broad scaly tail stores fat and works as a rudder. The hind feet are webbed for fast swimming. Beavers build river dams from logs, mud, and stones.
