Some people say that technical progress is always harmful for the environment, whereas others say that there are new technologies that are not harmful at all.

In my opinion technical progress in not always destructive for nature. First of all, technical progress has become more harmless nowadays. For example, the modern cars can run on electricity, which means they do not pollute the environment at all. Secondly, governments of different countries have made special laws that forbid using toxic or environmentally unfriendly plants and factories. For instance, if a plant dumps more waste than allowed, it gets huge penalty fines. 

At the same time there are people who think that any technical progress is harmful. They see that the ground water in many towns is polluted. In a lot of countries people cannot drink tap water now. The air in big cities is very polluted as well. A lot of forests are being cut down in order to maintain our wooden goods production.

In my opinion all these arguments have their point but as I said before, technology does not stop. People have realized harmfulness of technical progress a long time ago and have been working hard to make it as harmless as it possible.

In conclusion, I would like to say that technology has come a long way. It has started to move in a different direction namely, it is becoming more and more environmentally friendly. I believe it is a positive trend and at some point our technology will be absolutely harmless. Thus, I stick to the opinion that technical progress is not always harmful.
