Comment on the following statement: |
Most teachers believe that all subjects at school are equally useful. |
|
What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement? |
Most teachers think that all subjects have to be taught since they are equally useful, whereas other teachers do not agree. They believe that students should be allowed to choose what subjects to study.
I think that all subjects cannot be equally useful. First of all, students usually know what they want to be even in Primary School, which means the subjects that are connected to their future specialty are more useful. Second, the word “useful” can not have an objective meaning. Things that are useful for some people can be absolutely useless for others.
At the same time there are teachers who say that it is very important for each student to study every subject at school as if it was his future specialty. Life is unpredictable and a person never knows what job he will have to do. There are a lot of examples when people thought they would be, say, a doctor but ended up as engineers.
I cannot agree with the opinion mentioned above for a particular reason. There might be some unexpected unexpected changes, nevertheless, I consider them more an exception than a rule. A person is usually either technical or humanitarian so the direction of education can be chosen from the early age.
In conclusion, I would like to say that studying in school is meant to prepare a person for studying in university and ultimately getting a good job. I am pretty sure that our education system should be designed to help one with his or her goals. The direction and the subjects to study ought be adjusted for the interests, psycho-type and inclinations of students. This all gives me a reason to believe that there is a hierarchy between the subjects. or In conclusion, I would like to say that there are opposing views on this issue. At first sight all school subjects seem to be equally important but in actual fact school is meant to help people with their future jobs. Thus, I strongly believe that all subjects are not equally useful and should be adjusted for a person’s needs. |
