Comment on the following statement: |
Exams are a fair way of testing students. |
|
What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement? |
Some people think that exams can give the objective evaluation of students’ knowledge, whereas others do not agree with it. They compare exams with a generator of random numbers. One can know the subject well but get a bad mark and vice versa.
I think that exams are a good way of testing knowledge. First of all, to get a good mark one should thoroughly prepare for exams and learn particular amount information. Second, exams have been run since time immemorial to rate students’ knowledge. The process itself is easy to organize, either one knows the answer or they do not know it. A person might also know a part of the answer and get an appropriate assessment.
At the same time there are people who say that exams cannot fairly rate the level on knowledge. Students can be under the stress. They also can feel horrible because of insomnia on the eve of exams. The subject can be deeper than the test covers.
Well, physical and mental conditions on exams might play some role, however, if a person is well-prepared, neither stress nor other things can bewilder them. Exams are the easiest and most suitable and approved ways for schools and universities to check students' level of knowledge.
In conclusion, I would like to say there will always be some flaws in the systems of knowledge evaluation. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that we should use the system of examination we have and focus more on improving our academic experience rather than on criticizing exams as a tool of checking students' knowledge. or In conclusion, I would like to say that there are opposing views on this issue. At first sight exams might seem not a fair way of checking one’s knowledge at all but in actual fact their efficiency have been proved thorough ages. Thus, I believe that exams are a great tool of checking students' knowledge. |
The question of testing students has been discussed for a very long time. Some people think that it is the fairest way of checking pupils’ knowledge, whereas others are quite skeptical. They are sure that stress can cause horrible results.
Personally, I believe that it is one of the best ways of testing students’ knowledge. First of all, the teachers always strictly check students and follow the exam rules. For example, nobody can cheat on tests because they cannot have telephones or textbooks with them. Secondly, such tests always include information that is learned in classes. You will get an appropriate assessment that covers the materials you learnt.
At the same time there are people who say that such tests are unfair. They are convinced that any test atmosphere is very nervous. During the exams students have a lot of stress that is why they can have bad results.
As a matter of fact these people have a point. Stress might influence the results. However, if a student knows the materials well, he will not have any stress that can ruin his or her results. They will be confident and sure in their knowledge.
In conclusion, I would like to say that every test system has advantages as well as disadvantages. The exams are not an exception. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that tests are a fair way of checking a real level of students’ knowledge. |
