Electronic assistant: How long have you been learning english? (19)
Student: Well, I've been learning English for about 9 years.

Electronic assistant: How many English lessons do you have a week? (20)

Student: We usually have 3 English lessons a week.

Electronic assistant: What do you do in your English lessons? (21)
Student: Usually, we read different texts and translate them. We also learn English grammar and answer some exercises and do some tests. Sometimes we pair up and learn some dialogues. After reading a text we retell it. We also listen to some texts or dialogues to improve our comprehension.

Electronic assistant: Why have you chosen english as an exam this year? (22)
Student: I guess that I’ve chosen English as an exam this year because I will need it in the future. English is the major international language. If you speak English, you will be able to communicate in many countries. I also will need it for my future work as a lawyer in an international company.

Electronic assistant: What other foreign language or languages would you like to speak? (23)
Student: Francly speaking, I'd like to speak Japanese fluently. In fact, I’ve already started learning it.

Electronic assistant: What would you recommend to students who want to improve their English? (24)

Student: As for improving English, my first recommendation is to watch movies. I’ve seen many movies in English and feel that my English has improved. I read the script first and then watch the movie a few times till I understand it thoroughly. Reading is good too. You learn a lot of new words. If a student can find an Native English Speaking friend who he can talk to on Skype, he will be able to quickly improve his speaking skills.

Electronic assistant: What other languages you would like to speak? (26)

Electronic assistant: What age do you think is the best for learning foreign languages? (27)

Electronic assistant: Do you think you will need to know a foreign language for your future job? Why? (28)
Student: I am sure that I will need a foreign language for my future job. I am going to work for an international company where everybody speaks English. Perhaps, I will continue my Dad’s business. He deals with many foreign companies so I will have to speak English well.

Electronic assistant: Why do people learn foreign languages? (29)
Student: I think that people learn foreign languages because they have some interest in the culture that uses that language. Knowing a foreign language allows you to converse with people from different countries. It’s interesting as well. I am sure it broadens one’s mind too.

Electronic assistant: How old are you? (31)
Student: I am 16 years old.

Electronic assistant: Do you do your morning exercises regularly? Why, or why not? (32)

Student:  Well, yes, I do my morning exercises regularly. It makes me feel good. After doing my workout I become full of energy. Then my day usually goes perfectly well. I feel in a good mood. If I don’t do my exercises I feel the opposite.

Electronic assistant: What sport facilities does your school have? (33)
Student: As far as I remember, our school has different sports facilities. We have a sports playground and a gym. You can also play football or basketball there. The gym is well equipped with different fitness machines, so that one could do whatever he or she needs, like weightlifting or different cardio exercises.

Electronic assistant: What sports are popular with your friends? (34)
Student: I guess, a lot of my friends like playing football or basketball. Occassionally, we go to play tennis or go to swim in a swimming pool. All these sports are quite popular among teens nowadays.

Electronic assistant: Why more and more people starting to do sport? (35)
Student: I think that people do more sports because they have realized that it’s absolutely necessary nowadays. A lot of people have jobs where they have to spend all their time in an office, sitting in a chair and in front of a computer. In some cases this physical inactivity can cause different medical problems.

Electronic assistant: What would you recommend to a teenager to help them stay fit and healthy? (36)

Student: Personally, I would recommend to a teen who wants to stay fit and healthy to regularly go to a gym. Attending a gym three times a week gives visible results. He can also jog in the morning or go bicycling with his friends. He has to also eat healthy food and avoid fast food chain restaurants. Their food is high in saturated fat and dietary cholesterol. It can increase the level of cholesterol in body and make one vulnerable to different heart diseases.

Student: Personally, I like living in the city. I’ve been living in the city for my whole life. So, I feel quite comfortable here.

Electronic assistant: What is typical weather in your hometown? (44)

Student: Well, my hometown is Moscow. The weather has changed for the last 10 years here. Usually it’s quite agreeable, not really too cold but cold. Nevertheless, winters might last till the end of March. Summers might be also relatively cool, around +18C, most of the summer. Although, it depends on the year.

Electronic assistant: What place in your hometown do you like most of all? (45)
Student: Personally, I like Chistie Prudi most of all. When I was young my parents often took me there for walks. I played by the ponds and my parents sat on the benches and talked. I’ve grown up since then but I still keep going there to walk around with my friends and talk.

Electronic assistant: What environmental problems do people have in your hometown? (46)
Student: As far as I know, the biggest environmental problem in my hometown, Moscow, is air pollution. There are a lot of cars in our city and they produce a lot of fumes. Sometimes it is hard to breath when you are walking along a street with bad traffic. Also there are some problems with water and cutting out the trees but they are being successfully solved.

Electronic assistant: Would you stay in your hometown when you finish school? (47)

Electronic assistant: What transport do you use to get to your school? (49)
Student: Usually, I use the metro. It’s the fastest way to get to my school. Sometimes I use a bus but not so often.

Electronic assistant: What does your school building look like? (50)

Student: As for my school building, it looks like an ordinary building. It’s an average 4 story building. It’s painted with a pinkish color. There is a smaller building for the primary school next to the high school one.

Electronic assistant: What sport facilities does your school offer to the students? (51)
Student: Well, our school offers different sports facilities. You can play football or basketball there. The gym is well equipped with different fitness machines, so that one could do whatever he needs, like weightlifting or different cardio exercises.

Electronic assistant: What foreign languages can the students learn at your school? (52)
Student: As a rule, we all learn English. It’s obligatory. But those who want to learn other languages, like German, French and Spanish, can have extra lessons. It depends on how many students want to learn a language. If the number of students is large enough, the Foreign Language Department of our school organizes the lessons as an elective course.

Electronic assistant: What clothes do you have to wear at school? (53)
Student: As for clothes, students in our school do not have strict rules. We don’t have one uniform for every student in the school like many other schools. We wear clothes that are comfortable for us. Of course, it can’t be too bright or challenging that would distract others from the learning process.

Electronic assistant: What would you change in your school if you were the principal? (54)

Student: I think I would change the schedule of our lessons. I would make more say, mathematics lessons every day. Two subjects a day, no more. The students would have to learn only two or three subjects during the quarter and then move to other subjects, like biology, physics etc. I don’t like the idea of 5 different subject a day. It’s like dividing your attention between too many activities.

Electronic assistant: What environmental problem do you think is the most serious for your planet? (55)
Student: Personally, I think that the most serious environmental problem for our planet is ozone holes in our atmosphere. It causes the greenhouse effect and the Sun's radiation becomes more dangerous for people also.

Student: As far as I know, the biggest environmental problem in my hometown, Moscow, is air pollution. There are a lot of cars in our city and they produce a lot of car exhaust fumes. Sometimes it is hard to breath when you are walking along a street with bad traffic. Also there are some problems with water and cutting down trees but these problems are being successfully solved.

Electronic assistant: Does your family sort the rubbish before throwing it away? Why, or why not? (57)
Student: My family sorts the rubbish before throwing it away because it’s easier to recycle it. It takes us just a few seconds but it seriously helps our environment.

Electronic assistant: What can students in your school do to help the environment? (58)
Student: As a matter of fact, students in my school can do many things to help the environment. First of all, they can stop littering. They also can clean up everything after they go to a forest for picnics. They can also sort the rubbish there that they throw away.

Electronic assistant: Does a career as an ecologist attract you or not? Why? (59)

Student: Frankly speaking, I’ve already chosen another career. So, a career as an ecologist is not really attractive to me. I want to become a lawyer. Occassionally, I help our neighbors at our dacha and they pay me. I also help one company to fill in their web-site with different content information.

Electronic assistant: What do you spend your pocket money on? (64)
Student: Mainly, I spend my pocket money on different things that my parents consider useless. Like, if I want to upgrade my computer to a more powerful version, I pay for it. If I want to buy the newest telephone, I have to pay myself. My parents call it capricious, but I call it trendy.

Electronic assistant: Would you like to take a part time job? Why? (65)
Student: Actually, I love part time jobs and I’ve been taking them for more than 5 years. I call it
"freelance job". I dedicate to this job a part of my time. I think that having a part time job makes a teen independent and teaches him to deal with money, plan his budget, and save money for something important.

Electronic assistant: What part job would you recommend to any teenager who wants to earn some extra money during their summer holiday? (66)

Student: I think I would recommend to a teen who wants to make some extra money to work as a delivery man, or a waiter. Those who understand computers could also make good content managers. You have to just upload some information to web-sites. He can also clean dishes at a restaurant. One of my friends had such a job and was quite satisfied.

Electronic assistant: Have you got a pet? (67)
Student: Yes, I have a pet, a fat red cat.

Electronic assistant: What pets are most popular in your region? (68)

Student: I guess that cats and dogs are the most popular pets in my region. Some people like hamsters, though.

Electronic assistant: What pets do you think would be dangerous to keep in a flat? Why? (69)
Student: I think that some exotic animals could be quite dangerous. Some people keep lions or tigers in their flats. There are some cases when these pets hurt or even killed their owners. Some people like keeping fighting dogs. The same things happen with them. Occassionally they hurt their owners too. Pythons and scorpions are dangerous as well.

Electronic assistant: Why people are so attached to their pets? (70)
Student: I believe that people need someone or something to love. Pets are good living beings for this purpose. Usually, they love their owners back and are always ready to help them, especially dogs. They are a part of these families so the attachment to pets is natural.

Electronic assistant: Why do people sometimes abandon their pets? (71)
Student: I think that such people are not very good. These people abandon their pets because they don’t really understand the responsibility that lies with them. They don’t understand that the animals they have are not just toys, they are living creatures and they need to be loved and treated properly.

Electronic assistant: What pet would you recommend a person who has never had pets? Explain why? (72)

Student: I guess I would recommend a cat or a hamster. They are easy to take care of and they are funny. Perhaps, an insect or something small would do too. A grasshopper or a snail can be good pets for a beginner.

Electronic assistant: This is the end of the survey. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Student: Personally, I use the Internet for searching some information I need or communicating with my friends.

Electronic assistant: How much time on average do you send on-line a day? (74)

Student: Actually, I don’t use the Internet a lot. I think no longer than one hour a day. It depends on the day, though. On weekends I might play computer games so, it takes about 2 hours a day.

Student: As a matter of fact, I would take web-design courses. I find such courses very interesting and practical for me.

Electronic assistant: How can the Internet motivate people to learn foreign languages? (76)
Student: I guess that the Internet can motivate people to learn foreign languages by giving them access to information written in English. You can also communicate with English speaking people through the Internet by Skype or other apps.

Electronic assistant: Do you consider all the information on the Internet reliable or not? Why? (77)
Student: I think not all the information on the Internet is reliable. The Internet is an open platform for all kinds of information. Anyone can upload anything there. Responsible people check what they upload, whereas irresponsible people don’t. Some people upload false information on the net on purpose to bewilder innocent users.

Electronic assistant: How would you recommend teenagers avoid becoming addicted to the Internet? (78)

Student: I would recommend scheduling this process. For example, you plan your day and you give it say, one hour using the Internet. Then you follow your plan. The problems starts when you don’t control the process and it consumes all your free time.

Electronic assistant: How often do you borrow books from the library? (87)
Student: Actually, I never borrow books from the library. I buy them or download them from the Internet and read them on my e-book reader.

Electronic assistant: Why do teenagers use libraries less nowadays than they used to? (88)
Student: I guess teens use libraries less nowadays because they have alternative libraries. I mean electronic libraries. One can get instant access to them on-line and read or work from home. Whereas, one would need to go to real libraries. It takes time to go to physical libraries that is hard to find nowadays.

Electronic assistant: Do you prefer e-books or printed books? Why? (89)
Student: As for me, I prefer reading e-books to printed ones because they are more convenient to read. I’ve got an e-book reader that is really easy to use. You can have your whole library in your pocket. Unlike computers or tablets, this e-book technology is very friendly for your eyes.

Electronic assistant: What book would you recommend your friends to read? (90)

Student: I think I would recommend them The Hobbit by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. As I was saying, Tolkien is my favorite writer. Many of his books have been turned into movies and I think that "The Hobbit" is better to read than to watch.

ВАРИАНТ ОТВЕТА 16:

Electronic assistant: What exams are you going to take at the end of the academic year? (97)
Student: I think my exams are going to be mathematics, Russian and English languages.

Electronic assistant: How do you usually feel before you have to do an exam? (98)

Electronic assistant: What exams do you prefer: oral or written? Why? (99)
Student: I prefer written exams. When I write things I can focus better. It’s easier to express my thoughts when I am writing them on a piece of paper or on my computer. When I am taking an oral exam, I worry too much and make stupid mistakes or forget what I know well.

Electronic assistant: How do you prepare for your English exam? (100)
Student: As a rule, I go through as many examples as possible. If it’s grammar, I do a lot of grammar testing. If it’s listening, I listen to a lot of typical audio tasks. The same with writing and reading. When I’ve done 20 say, writing tasks my brain tunes in on it and at the end I do them much better.

Electronic assistant: Are exams useful from your point of view? Why do you think so? (101)
Student: I am sure that exams are very useful. They make us repeat the material of the exam many times. They make us focus on the most important information. We also treat the subject that has the exam at the end of the year much more seriously than a subject that doesn’t have one.

Electronic assistant: What would you recommend to a student who has failed his or her exam? (102)

Student: Personally, I would recommend such a person reviewing more. The main thing is to focus on something he or she knows worse of all. The person can ask his friends to help if he doesn’t understand something. Of course, one should never give up, to lose a single fight doesn’t mean to lose the whole battle.

Electronic assistant: Do you think it is important for everyone to have good cooking skills? (119)
Student:  Yes, I think that it’s important to know how to cook well. First of all, the process of cooking itself is pleasant. Second of all, it's good for us too eat delicious and healthy food, properly cooked. I mean, not overly fried, without mayonnaise or margarine and other such unhealthy products. The reason why they're unhealthy is that they dissolve at higher temperatures than our body's natural temperature.

Electronic assistant: What do you recommend to a teenager to stay fit and healthy? (120)
