Task 2

You are going to take part in a telephone survey. You have to answer the six questions. Give full answers to the questions. Remember that you have 40 seconds to answer each question.

Electronic assistant: Hello! It’s the electronic assistant of the Dolphin Sports Club. We kindly ask you to take part in our survey. We need to find out how people feel about doing sports in our region. Please answer six questions. The survey is anonymous – you don’t have to give your name. So, let’s get started.

Electronic assistant: Describe one environmental problem in your hometown.

Student: As far as I know, the biggest environmental problem in my hometown, Moscow, is air pollution. There are a lot of cars in our city and they produce a lot of car exhaust fumes. Sometimes it is hard to breath when you are walking along a street with bad traffic. Also there are some problems with water and cutting down trees but these problems are being successfully solved.

Electronic assistant: Does your family sort the rubbish before throwing it away? Why, or why not?
Student: My family sorts the rubbish before throwing it away because it’s easier to recycle it. It takes us just a few seconds but it seriously helps our environment.

Electronic assistant: What can students in your school do to help the environment?
Student: As a matter of fact, students in my school can do many things to help the environment. First of all, they can stop littering. They also can clean up everything after they go to a forest for picnics. They can also sort the rubbish there that they throw away. 

Electronic assistant: Does a career as an ecologist attract you or not? Why?

Student: Frankly speaking, I’ve already chosen another career. So, a career as an ecologist is not really attractive to me. I want to become a lawyer. As for being an ecologist, it’s not really interesting for me. I like to study law and help people with it. I think that it’s more important then anything else for me.

Electronic assistant: What would you recommend teenagers do to make their hometown a better place to live in?

Student: Actually, I would recommend them to be more disciplined and follow the law. I mean not to litter and not to cross the roads against the red light since it’s forbidden. They can teem up with activists in their buildings and take part in some activities that are useful for their yard. All these things will make their hometown a better place to live.
