TIMOR-LESTE

1. Population and capital.

East-Leste is a small country in Southeast Asia with a population of about 1.4 million people. The capital and largest city of the country is Dili.

2. Religion.

The main religion in East Timor is Catholicism. The vast majority of the population is Roman Catholic, and Christianity plays an important role in the country's culture and public life.

3. Dili.

Dili is the capital and largest city of East Timor. It is located on the northern coast of the island of Timor and is the country's main political, economic, and cultural center.

4. Cristo Rei.

Cristo Rei is one of the most famous landmarks in East Timor. The huge statue of Jesus Christ stands on top of a hill near Dili and overlooks the coast.

5. Portuguese heritage.

East Timor was under Portuguese rule for more than 400 years. Portuguese influence can still be seen in the country's language, religion, architecture, and culture. The official languages are Portuguese and Tetum.

6. Independence.

East Timor declared independence from Portugal in 1975, after which it was occupied by Indonesia. Following a referendum and a transitional period, the country finally gained full independence in 2002.

7. Coffee.

Coffee is one of East Timor's most important agricultural products and one of the country's main exports. Coffee plantations are located mainly in mountainous areas.

8. Currency.

The main official currency of East Timor is the US dollar. The country also issues its own centavo coins.

9. Geographical location.

East Timor occupies the eastern part of the island of Timor, as well as several smaller territories and islands. The country shares a land border only with Indonesia and is located northwest of Australia.
