YEMEN

1. Population and Capital.

Yemen is a country in Western Asia with a population of about 42 million people. The capital of the country is Sana'a. The largest city in Yemen by population is Sana'a.

2. Religion.

The most widespread religion in Yemen is Islam. Most of the country's population is Muslim. The main branches of Islam in Yemen are Sunni Islam and Zaydi Shia Islam.

3. Sana'a.

Sana'a is the capital of Yemen and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The Old City of Sana'a is known for its multi-story brick houses decorated with distinctive white patterns and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

4. Yemeni Mountains.

The Yemeni Mountains cover a large part of western Yemen. They are home to Jabal An-Nabi Shu'ayb, the highest mountain in Yemen and the entire Arabian Peninsula, with an elevation of about 3,666 meters.

5. Socotra Island.

Socotra is a Yemeni island in the Arabian Sea, famous for its unique natural environment. Many species of plants and animals found on the island exist nowhere else in the world. It is especially famous for the dragon's blood tree with its unusual umbrella-shaped crown. The Socotra Archipelago is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

6. Shibam.

Shibam is an ancient city in Yemen famous for its tall multi-story buildings made of mud brick. Because of its unusual architecture, it is often called the “Manhattan of the Desert.” The Old Walled City of Shibam is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

7. Yemeni Culture.

Yemeni culture developed under the influence of ancient Arab and Islamic traditions. Family, hospitality, traditional clothing, music, poetry, crafts, religious holidays, and national cuisine all play an important role.

8. Currency.

The official currency of Yemen is the Yemeni rial.

9. Geographical Location.

Yemen is located in Western Asia, in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders Saudi Arabia to the north and Oman to the east. Yemen is bordered by the Red Sea to the west and the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea to the south.
