SRI LANKA

1. Population and capital.

Sri Lanka is an island country in South Asia with a population of about 22 million people. The official capital of the country is Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. The largest city and main economic center of Sri Lanka is Colombo.

2. Religion.

Most of Sri Lanka's population practices Buddhism. Buddhism plays an important role in the country's culture and history. Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity are also widely practiced on the island.

3. Colombo.

Colombo is the largest city in Sri Lanka and the country's main economic and commercial center. It is home to the island's largest seaport, as well as numerous banks, companies, shopping centers, and government institutions.

4. Sigiriya.

Sigiriya is one of the most famous landmarks in Sri Lanka. It is an ancient fortress built on top of a huge rock in the 5th century. Sigiriya is famous for its frescoes, gardens, and palace ruins and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

5. Ceylon tea.

Sri Lanka is one of the world's largest producers of tea. The country was formerly known as Ceylon, which is why tea grown here is still widely known as Ceylon tea. Tea plantations cover large areas in the country's central highlands.

6. Independence.

Sri Lanka gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1948. Until 1972, the country was officially known as Ceylon, after which it adopted its modern name — Sri Lanka.

7. Nature.

Sri Lanka is known for its rich tropical nature. The island has mountains, tropical forests, waterfalls, and national parks. It is home to elephants, leopards, monkeys, and many species of tropical birds.

8. Currency.

The national currency of Sri Lanka is the Sri Lankan rupee.

9. Geographical location.

Sri Lanka is located in South Asia, in the Indian Ocean, southeast of India. The island is separated from India by the Palk Strait. Sri Lanka has no land borders with other countries and is surrounded by the waters of the Indian Ocean.
