Some people think that computers are essential to effective study whereas others disagree.

I think computers are important and they definitely help pupils study more effectively. First of all, pupils need to do some research in order to write a good essay or solve difficult problems. To do that, they need information and they don’t always have the necessary books at home. Sure, they can go to the library and most likely find what they need there, but even that is not guaranteed. Besides, going to the library would take a lot of time. Computers allow pupils to access the Internet where they can find all the information they need in a matter of seconds. Their teachers can communicate with them via email, which also helps them study more effectively.

At the same time there’re people who think that computers don’t help students study more effectively. Schools provide them with all the information they need and that’s enough. Computers would only distract them from studying.

In my opinion these people have a point. At the same time I disagree. Sometimes schools give pupils tasks that require a lot of research. Having a computer at home can help do this research quickly and thoroughly. True, they may distract pupils from studying, but so can many other things. The only thing that can keep a pupil’s attention where it needs to be is discipline.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that computers are tools that can be used for many different things, both good and bad. If we choose to use them wisely they can facilitate our study process tremendously.
