How clouds form

Clouds form because the air contains water vapor.

When the Sun heats rivers, seas, lakes, and oceans, water evaporates and rises into the air. Plants release water too.

As warm air rises, it becomes cooler. Cold air cannot hold as much water vapor as warm air. As a result, the extra moisture condenses into tiny water droplets.

If the air temperature falls below 0°C, this moisture turns into ice crystals, which can later become snowflakes or hail.

The tiny water droplets group together and form clouds.

These droplets keep bumping into each other and become bigger. The clouds become thicker and heavier.

When the rising air can no longer hold them, they fall to the ground as precipitation. If the temperature is above 0°C, they fall as rain. If the temperature is below 0°C, they fall as snow or hail.

So, clouds form because warm air rises, cools down, and the extra moisture turns into tiny water droplets that make up clouds.
