Comment on the following statement: |
| Chinese will replace English as an international language. This is inevitable as China has the biggest population and the fastest-growing economy in the world. | |
|
What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement? |
|

Some people say that Chinese soon will become an international language whereas others don’t agree.

I think that Chinese won’t become international language any soon. First of all, this language is very difficult. Hieroglyphs are hard to remember and understand. Second, the principle and structure of Chinese is absolutely different from European languages. It requires a special world vision to master this language properly. It’s also really hard to pronounce.

At the same time there are people who say that the more Chinese economy develops the more people will speak Chinese. This year the restrictions connected with number of children in a Chinese family were abolished. So this language will spread even faster.

In my opinion these people have a point. The more people speak one language the more other people start speaking this language. Nevertheless, we have not really seen how European speaking people started speaking Chinese so far. Rather Chinese learn how to speak English. All new technologies are described in English. All manuals for any kind of techniques are written in English. English is way easier to learn.

Comment on the following statement: |
| The greatest problem of all modern cities is traffic jams. In Europe as well as in Asia a lot of people use bicycles to get to their destinations. Do you think that it is suitable for Russians? | |
|
What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement? |
|

Some people say changing cars to bicycles is possible in Russia whereas others don’t agree.

I think that it would be a good idea to change cars to bicycles. First of all, it’s more healthy. It would solve another problem of modern civilization – physical inactivity. Secondly, cars pollute environment a lot so we would solve one more important problem. It’s also cheaper to maintain a bicycle than a car.

At the same time there are people who say that it’s impossible in Russia. We don’t have a lot of special bicycle lanes in big cities. People got used to driving and will never ever change to bicycling.

In my opinion these people have a point. Old habits die hard. Nevertheless, I believe that if government starts advertising this new life-style and give some facilities for it, very soon people will be riding instead of driving.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that if we weigh all the facts that support suitability of changing cars to bicycles in Russia against the ones that criticize it, we'll see that the facts that support bicycling outweigh those against.
