Some people say that one must get a college degree to be successful in life, whereas others say that it is not that important.

I think that a university degree is desirable but not absolutely necessary. First of all, there are examples of very successful people some of whom never finished college. Steve Jobs or Bill Gates did not get a university degree but they are known as very successful businessmen. Secondly, university can help people to develop specific skills but they do not own this knowledge. Nowadays all the information is available online, one just needs to know where to look. If a person is really determined he or she can learn whatever they want himself.

Other people say that one should study in college to prepare for future jobs. Good education gets one a good job that pays a lot of money. It is the foundation for a successful and happy life.

In my opinion the desire to become a professional and to develop required skills can guarantee success. Companies always have the need for good specialists, with university degree or without. There are plenty of examples of people with degrees who are not successful in life at all.

So I believe that a university degree can help a person become successful in life but it can not guarantee it. In my opinion only the proper qualities like hard-working, discipline and constant self-improvement can guarantee success. If one can do something superbly there will always be people willing to pay them for the job.
