Some people think that testing medicines and cosmetics on animals is immoral, whereas others think that it is better than on people.

I think that first of all medicines and cosmetics cannot be treated equally. If one is talking about medicines that can save human lives then animal testing is unfortunate but sometimes necessary. I believe that there is a hierarchy of living beings and humans are on the top. So, if in order to save human lives animal sacrifices are unavoidable then that is what we should do. At the same time I believe it is very wrong to do it for something that we can easily do without, namely cosmetics. Nobody will die without it and if some people want to have it they should volunteer and test it on themselves.

Nevertheless, there are people who say that any experiments on animals should be prohibited. Animals are like humans. They can feel, think, suffer etc., so they must be treated as humans.

In my opinion this vision has its value only if humans and animals are considered on the same level of development. Then, why do they talk only about animals not reptiles or insects? Also, humans eat animals and other creatures, which must be even more immoral.

In conclusion I would like to say that sometimes we have to choose between two evils. I do not think that there is something absolutely bad or good. Killing or harming is bad, but doing so to save lives might be a sacrifice worth making. There is nothing immoral in testing medicines on animals to save a life of a child. Yet, I believe it is immoral to make animals suffer just so someone would be happier with looking in the mirror.
