About Eldar Ryazanov (краткие биографические сведения)

Eldar Aleksandrovich Ryazanov is a famous Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, actor, TV presenter, poet and teacher. He was born on November 18, 1927 in the city of Samara into a family of workers of the Soviet trade mission to Tehran. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Moscow, where Ryazanov lived to the end of his life. In 1938, Eldar's father was repressed (1) and imprisoned (2) for 17 years. From the age of 7 Eldar was raised by his stepfather (3).

As a child, Eldar loved reading books. He read a lot of books about ancient (4) Greek art, French impressionism and impressed (5) people with the depth (6) of his knowledge (7). He wanted to become a writer but it happened that he entered VGIK, where he graduated with honors (8) in 1950.

Until 1955 he filmed documentary films and materials for newsreels (9). In 1955 he was invited to work in Mosfilm. There he showed his gift (10) as a comedy filmmaker.

In 1956, his first film of this genre, "Carnival Night", was released. This film brought him huge popularity and determined (11) the direction of his work for a long time.

Eldar Ryazanov became the master of the domestic comedy that gave the viewer many hilarious (12) comedies. The following years were very productive (13). His best films: "Beware of the car", "Zigzag of Success", "Old hags", "Hussar Ballad", "Office romance", "The Irony of Fate" and many others.

Ryazanov is the face of Soviet comedy. In total he shot (14) 38 films, 16 of them as documentaries. He also wrote 26 scenarios.

Eldar was married three times. From the first marriage he has a daughter Olga, a philologist, a film critic. His grandson Dmitriy is a TV journalist and a writer.

Eldar Alexandrovich died on his 89th birthday on November 30, 2015.
