СЛОВА, ОПИСЫВАЮЩИЕ THE MUSICAL DONKEY:

Днем осёл работал у прачки.

During the day the donkey worked for the washerman.

Ночью он отправился на долгую прогулку со своим другом шакалом.

At night he went for long walks with his friend, the jackal.

Шакал никогда не слушал, но осёл говорил и говорил, пока они не достигли огуречного поля.

The jackal never listened but the donkey talked and talked until they reached the cucumber field.

Затем осёл широко открывал рот и кусал свежий, сочный огурец, прохладный, как луна.

Then the donkey would open his mouth wide and bite into a fresh, juicy cucumber, cool as the moon.

Каждую ночь они ели.

Every night, the two ate.

Осёл много съел.

The donkey ate a LOT.

Он растолстел от радости.

He grew fat with joy.

И вот однажды он запел от радости.

And then one day he began to sing with joy.

"О нет!" - сказал шакал и закрыл уши.

“Oh no!” said the jackal and closed his ears.

"О да!" - сказал осёл и ещё шире открыл рот.

 “Oh yes!” said the donkey and opened his mouth even wider.

"СТОП!" крикнул шакал.

“STOP!” cried the jackal.

«Фермер услышит вас!»

“The farmer will hear you!”

Но осёл не переставал петь.

But the donkey didn’t stop singing.

"СТОП!" крикнул шакал.

“STOP!” cried the jackal.

«Огурцы вас услышат!»

“The cucumbers will hear you!”

И все же осёл не переставал петь.

Still the donkey didn’t stop singing.

Но фермер его не слышал.

But the farmer didn’t hear him.

Ты знаешь почему?

You know why?

Ему снилось, что у него на поле есть тысяча огурцов.

He was dreaming he had a thousand cucumbers in his field.

Он не хотел просыпаться.

He didn’t want to wake up.

В поле ждали настоящие огурцы.

In the field, the real cucumbers waited.

Но фермер не пришел.

But the farmer did not come.

И музыкальный осёл не переставал петь.

And the musical donkey would not stop singing.

Огурцы не выдержали.

The cucumbers could not bear it.

Что они могли сделать?

What could they do?

Один за другим они выскочили из поля и побежали к дому фермера.

One by one, they jumped out of the field and ran to the farmer’s house.

На следующее утро, когда фермер проснулся, он был не один.

The next morning, when the farmer woke up, he was not alone.

Вокруг него были огурцы - не спали, глядя на него.

All around him were cucumbers – wide awake, looking at him.

А в поле осёл крепко спал.

And in the field the donkey was fast asleep.
