Sergey Kovalev was born on April 2^nd, 1983 in the town of Kopeisk, Chelyabinsk region, in a family of miners. As a child, Sergey had to fight a lot with classmates, so from the age of 11 he began to attend a local boxing club.

Thanks to his talent and hard work, Sergey was able to become the champion of the Russian Federation (2005) and the champion among military personnel (2005).

In 2009, he began his professional boxing career in the USA. Since then, Kovalev has become the only three-time World Boxing champion from Russia and the only “Best Boxer of the Year” (2014) according to The Ring magazine. Sergey has become the Light Heavyweight champion according to IBF, WBO, and WBA boxing associations.

At first, boxing analysts did not rate Sergey highly. No one believed that he would achieve any success. But Sergey did not listen to the opinions of analysts but believing in his strength and trained hard.

In 2014, before fighting the famous champion Bernard Hopkins, few people gave Sergey any chance of winning. But it turned out differently. The long-standing champion Hopkins was outboxed, knocked down and almost got an early defeat. Thanks to this, Sergey became the “Boxer of the Year” (2014).

By style, Sergey is a boxer-puncher. He combines excellent boxing technique and endurance with heavy knockout punches.

In his amateur career Sergey had 215 fights.

In the professional ring, Sergey scored 34 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw.

Sergey is married, has a son and daughter.
