Nicolas Kim Coppola (known professionally as Nicolas Cage) is an American actor, director and producer. Nicolas was born on the 7th of January, 1964 in Long Beach, California. His father is August Coppola, professor of literature. His mother is Joy Vogelsang, a dancer and choreographer. His uncle Francis Ford Coppola is a famous American film director, producer, and screenwriter (1). He was raised in a Catholic (2) family.

In the beginning of his acting career Nicolas decided to change his surname to Cage to separate himself from his famous uncle. He took this name from a superhero of Marvel Comics, Luke Cage. 

Nicholas practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

He aspired (3) to act from an early age and attended UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television. His first non-cinematic acting experience was in a school production of Golden Boy. Nicolas was greatly inspired (4) by James Dean's acting and after watching "East of Eden" he said that, "acting is what I really want to do".

Nicolas has acted in many movies and developed (5) his own style about which he is going to write a book. 

In 1988, Cage began dating actress Christina Fulton, who later bore their son, Weston Coppola Cage. Weston was the lead (6) singer of the black metal band Eyes of Noctum. Weston also appeared in his father's film "Lord of War" as Vladimir, a young Ukrainian mechanic.

Weston’s wife Danielle provided (7) Cage with two grandsons, Lucian Augustus Coppola Cage and Sorin Cage.
