Nikita Sergeevich Mikhalkov is a famous Russian film director, actor, screenwriter and producer. Nikita was born on October 21, 1945 in Moscow. His father Sergey Mikhalkov is a well-known writer, author of numerous (1) children's books, author of both anthems (2), one for the USSR and later for the Russian Federation. His Mother, Natalya Konchalovskaya, is a poet and translator. He has a brother, Andrey.

From his early childhood Nikita showed remarkable (3) creative abilities, which surprised no one, because he is a descendant (4) of a well-known creative dynasty, rooted (5) in the distant (6) past. Great-grandfather (7) Mikhalkov on the maternal (8) line was the famous Russian artist (9) Vasily Surikov.

Mikhalkov studied acting at the children's studio of the Moscow Art Theatre. He started to participate in movies at the age of 14. He became well-known after the movie "Walking the Streets of Moscow".

In 1963 he entered the Shchukin Theater Institute (Shchuka), but was expelled (10) from it during the 4th year for taking part in filming, which at that time was absolutely forbidden.

Mikhalkov transferred (11) to The Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), to the Directing Department, which later determined (12) his creative destiny (13). Working as a director he entered the movie world as if he had always been in it. His film "At Home Among Strangers" was the beginning of his filmmaking career. After that, his stellar ascent (14) was launched (15) and his films were released almost every year.

In total, Nikita made 35 films. Many of these films received international recognition (16) and won prizes at festivals. At the same time Mikhalkov personally acted in many of his films. He starred (17) in such films as "Siberiade", "Station for Two", "The Hound of the Baskervilles", "A Cruel Romance" and others.

The most famous film in his life as a director and as an actor was the film, "Burnt by the Sun", where he played the role of Sergey Kotov, his most acclaimed (18) role. The film received an Oscar as the Best Foreign Film.

"The Barber of Siberia" deserves (19) special attention. In this film Mikhalkov perfectly showed the complexity (20) and originality (21) of the Russian soul (22).

Mikhalkov is married. From his first marriage with Anastasia Vertinskaya he has a son, Stepan. He also has three children from his second marriage, Artyom, Anna and Nadya. His children are continuing the tradition of the family. Their work activity is connected with cinematography. Mikhalkov already has 9 grandchildren.
