About James Cameron (краткие биографические сведения)

James Francis Cameron is a Canadian and American filmmaker, philanthropist and deep-sea explorer. James was born on August 16, 1954, Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. His parents are Shirley, an artist and nurse, and Phillip Cameron, an electrical engineer.

James was the eldest of five children. He completed his primary education in the United States in California where the family moved in the early 1960s. James entered the physics department of the University of California. Then he switched (1) to English, then dropped out (2) and didn’t finish his studies. Along with two school friends, William Wisher and Jason Fessenden, he made a short film "Xenogenesis" (1978).

Cameron became famous with the film "Terminator" (1984). The image of the Terminator came to Cameron in a dream when he was sick with the Flu. He showed his script to many film companies but no one wanted to deal with a young director. At the end, he sold it to his future wife Gail Anne Hurd for a symbolic fee of $ 1, provided (3) that she would give him the complete freedom of its filming.

Cameron next began the sequel (4) “Aliens” (1986). According to (5) Cameron, the crew on Aliens was hostile (6) to him and regarded (7) him as a poor substitute (8) for Ridley Scott who directed “Alien” (1979). Despite (9) many off-screen problems Aliens became a box-office (10) success.

Titanic” stared by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio was released in 1997 and became the highest grossing (11) film in the history of cinema until 2010. At a cost of $ 200 million (the most expensive project at that time), the film collected $ 1.8 billion worldwide and received 11 Oscars.

Cameron's next big project was "Avatar". Its success led to a boom of 3D movies in the early 2010s.

On March 26, 2012, Cameron reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, in the Deepsea Challenger submersible. He was the third person who has ever done it.

In 2010, Time magazine listed Cameron among the 100 most influential (12) people in the world.
