Alfredo James Pacino is an American actor and filmmaker. Pacino was born on April 25, 1940 in the East Harlem neighborhood (1) of New York City. His American Italian parents Salvatore and Rose Pacino divorced when he was two years old.

In his teen years his nickname was "Sonny". He wanted to become a baseball player. He also had another nickname "The Actor". He grew up in a poor criminal district of the South Bronx and was often an instigator (2) of fights. He was one of the main troublemakers at his school.

He dropped out (3) of school at the age of 17. After an argument (4) with his Mom he left home. To finance his acting studies, he took low-paying jobs as a messenger, busboy (5), janitor (6), and postal clerk. Pacino once worked in the mailroom (7) for Commentary magazine.

He started performing at “HB Studio” where he met the acting teacher Charlie Lawton, who became his best friend. During this period Al Pacino often had neither work nor a roof over his head. Sometimes he had to spend a night in the streets, in theaters or stay at friends’ homes.

In "Actors Studio" Al Pacino improved his acting skills by using the Stanislavsky System of acting. These are the studios where Robert De Niro studied too.   Al Pacino’s debut in cinema was with a small role in the film "Me, Natalie" (1969)"

Al Pacino received his first major role in 1971, playing a drug addict in the film "The Panic in Needle Park" After this film he was noticed (8) by Francis Ford Coppola who invited him to act in his film "The Godfather".

He also played the leading role of the Cuban drug lord Tony Montana in the film "Scarface". In the beginning this film was criticized, but then it became a "cult" film. Al Pacino said that he considers (9) this role to be the best one of his life.

In 1995, the actor starred in the movie "Heat". In the film Pacino acted for the first time with Robert De Niro.

Although (10) Al Pacino has never been married, he has three children. From Jan Tarrant, he has a daughter Julia Maria Pacino. Beverly D'Angelo gave him twins Anton James and Olivia Rose. Al Pacino is trying to schedule (11) his time so that he can spend as much time as possible with his children. He often declares, "The birth of children is the best thing that happened to me in life."
