It’s a story about a grumpy grandpa who seems rude and angry, but deep inside is just lonely and sad.
Once upon a time, there lived a grumpy old man. He woke up every morning already feeling cranky. The sun was too bright, the birds were too loud, and everything annoyed him.
People in the village thought he was a very grouchy man. He complained about the weather, the noise, and even the wind.
In fact, he was a truly curmudgeonly old fellow — always muttering, always unhappy, always shaking his stick.
When something went wrong, he became cantankerous and argued with everyone, even with a cat that walked past his house.
The old man was very irritable. A small sound could make him angry, and tiny problems felt huge to him.
He was also extremely fussy. He wanted everything in the “right” place — the chair, the cup, the clock.
Sometimes he became peevish, getting upset over little things that did not really matter.
Most people thought he was surly, because he rarely smiled and never said hello.
Deep inside, however, the old man was just morose. He felt lonely and missed the happier days of his life.
One day, a small boy came up to him and said, “Good morning!”
The old man frowned… then slowly smiled. He was still grumpy — but not as much as before.
