Seasons and weather

One of my favorite times of the year is spring.

I think it feels optimistic, after a long winter,

when the flowers come out

and it starts getting warmer.

You don't have to put your coat on all the time.

When the sun starts shining a bit more

everybody is much more positive,

in a much better mood.

Winter is always so long and dark.

I think it is really nice when the days get longer and brighter and warmer,

all the flowers come out and things look greener, and nature starts again.

I like to go walking in the hills around Budapest

or on Margit Island

and it is always really beautiful

in the spring and summer.

Although actually, summer in Hungary is almost too hot for my liking.

Sometimes it gets really hot,

and it is quite difficult to work and concentrate

when it gets too hot and sweaty.

In England there are much more moderate temperatures because of the sea, which regulates the temperature,

so the winters are not very cold

and the summers aren't very hot.

Sometimes it rains in the summer,

but you can be sure of a few nice days.

Одним из моих любимых времен года является весна. Чувствуешь себя веселее после длинной зимы, когда вырастают цветы, и становится теплее.

Не надо все время надевать пальто.

Когда солнце начинает больше светить,

всем становится веселее,

у всех поднимается настроение.

Зима всегда такая долгая и темная.

Приятно, когда день становится длиннее, ярче и теплее,

расцветают цветы и все вокруг зеленеет,

природа снова оживает.

Мне нравится ходить пешком по холмам вокруг Будапешта

или по острову Маргит.

Он очень красивый

весной и летом.

Хотя, на самом деле, лето на мой взгляд в Венгрии слишком жаркое.

Иногда становится совсем жарко,

трудно работать и сосредоточится,

когда становится слишком жарко, все время потеешь.

В Англии температура более умеренная,

потому что море её регулирует,

поэтому зима не такая холодная,

а лето не такое жаркое.

Летом часто идут дожди,

но можно быть уверенным, что хорошие деньки наступят.

Autumn is another favorite season of mine.

Trees look beautiful

and you can go on walks in the hills.

It becomes easier to work

and there are always a lot of parties in autumn,

so for some reason I find I like autumn.

However, it is a little bit depressing as you think of the winter soon coming

and the nights get longer and darker.

I suppose as I was born in autumn,

I have a certain affection for that time of the year.

Осень - одно мое любимое время года.

Деревья красивые,

и можно пойти погулять по холмам.

Становится легче работать,

и осенью устраивается много вечеринок,

поэтому-то осень мне и нравится.

И все же немного грустно, потому что начинаешь думать о скорой зиме,

ночи становятся длиннее и темнее.

Мне кажется, из-за того, что я родилась осенью, у меня такая любовь к этому времени года.

Winter is quite grim in Hungary, I think,

when it is dark and cold and wet.

Of course, traditionally it rains a lot in England as well,

as everybody says,

but in Hungary it gets much colder,

although it is more of a dry cold, I think,

and it is not usually so windy.

In England it can get very windy.

My least favorite months are, I think, January and February.

It is just really depressing.

Even though it's the New Year and you should be optimistic, with new beginnings and all those New Year's resolutions that nobody ever keeps,

they are still the worst months.

They are kind of non-descript,

just snowy, dark, and gloomy.

На мой взгляд, зима в Венгрии очень мрачная,

темно, холодно и сыро.

Конечно, в Англии всегда часто идут дожди, как все говорят,

но в Венгрии зимой гораздо холоднее,

хотя холод сухой,

и обычно, не так ветрено.

В Англии бывает очень ветрено.

Думаю, мои самые нелюбимые месяцы - январь и февраль.

В это время очень гнетущее настроение.

Хотя сейчас Новый год, и надо быть оптимистом и думать о новых начинаниях и всяких новогодних планах, которые никогда не выполняются,

все равно это самые плохие месяцы.

Их нельзя описать -

это просто снег, темнота и мрак.

I think the hottest place I've been to is Spain.

I have never been anywhere really tropical.

Granada is down in the south,

so it is getting close to Africa,

but it is still probably not as hot,

although it seemed really hot to me.

In Granada, there is no green anywhere,

except in the Alhambra,

where there is some grass and some water.

I do not like places where it is all dusty and dry. That is why I have no inclination to go to deserts, with dust, sand and flies.

По-моему, самое жаркое место, где я побывала - это Испания.

Я никогда не была в настоящих тропиках.

Гранада находится на юге,

она довольно близко от Африки,

и все же там не так жарко, хотя мне было очень жарко. В Гранаде нет нигде зелени,

только в Альгамбре

где есть трава и вода.

Я не люблю места, где пыльно и сухо.

Поэтому у меня нет намерения ехать в пустыню с пылью, песком и мухами.

I think Moscow is probably the coldest place I have been to,

although I have never been there in the depths of winter. I have been in September and October, and that was really cold,

the kind of cold that gets into your bones.

In Hungary it's good because at least you get snow at Christmas,

which is something English people always hope for,

pray for, but very rarely get.

I do not think there has been snow since 1970 or something.

I do not ever remember there being snow for Christmas there.

It is quite funny because people always put bets, at the book-maker's,

on whether or not there will be snow.

I heard on Sky TV this year that there almost was snow.

They thought there were maybe a few snow showers over England

and the "bookies", as they are called,

were getting really panicky, because they would have to pay out a lot of money if even just one snow flake fell on the London Weather Centre.

They would have had to pay out something like a hundred thousand pounds,

because a lot of people had bet that there would be snow.

А Москва, вероятно, самое холодное место, в котором я побывала,

хотя я не была там глубокой зимой.

Я была там в сентябре и октябре, но было очень холодно, такой холод, что, кажется, он проникал во все кости.

В Венгрии зима хороша уже потому, что на Рождество всегда бывает снег,

англичане только надеются и

молятся,

но очень редко получают.

Мне кажется, снега в Англии не было с 1970 года или что-то около того.

Не помню, чтобы там на Рождество был снег.

Это забавно, потому что люди всегда делают ставки в букмекерских конторах

на то, будет снег или нет.

Я слышала по "Скай ТВ", что в этом году чуть не выпал снег.

Они думали, что по Англии пройдут снегопады,

и "букиз", как их наэывают,

запаниковали, потому что им пришлось бы выплатить много денег, если бы хоть одна снежинка упала на лондонский метеоцентр.

Им бы пришлось заплатить что-то около ста тысяч фунтов,

потому что много людей поставили на то, что снег будет.

One thing I like about winter

is that you wear more clothes,

I don't know why that appeals to me.

I do not really like wearing sort of skimpy clothes,

particularly over my almost white body.

I have very fair skin,

so I never go brown,

even if I work at it.

I actually find sunbathing really boring.

I have no desire to lie around in the sun getting a tan.

Also in summer, I get really sleepy and find it quite difficult to work,

so I prefer the winter, I think,

when I can concentrate and

I can work and my head does not feel like it is full of cotton-wool.

Одно мне нравится зимой,

что можно носить много одежды,

не знаю, почему это мне нравится.

Мне не очень нравится, когда на мне мало одежды,

особенно на моем почти белом теле.

У меня очень светлая кожа, поэтому я никогда не становлюсь загорелой,

даже если стараюсь.

На самом деле мне скучно загорать.

У меня нет желания лежать на солнце и загорать.

Кроме того, летом мне всегда хочется спать и очень трудно работать,

поэтому я, предпочитаю зиму,

когда можно сосредоточиться и

работать, и голова не кажется забитой ватой.

When I was in Switzerland and Norway with my parents,

we went skiing,

so it was snowy weather, and very cold.

I think our trip to Norway was very cold

but I have such vague memories of it,

I do not know.

In England, people always used to think

the Czech Republic would be gray and cold,

and if you planned to go there

people would say "Why are you going there in the summer?

Why don't you go somewhere nice, where you can have a proper holiday?"

but in fact, it was the hottest place I`d ever been to.

In Brno, there is a really beautiful lake

where everybody goes swimming,

well you could if it wasn't so polluted,

and a lot of little camp sites all around

and beer gardens.

That was a really nice holiday.

Когда я была с родителями в Швейцарии и Норвегии,

мы катались на лыжах, значит там была снежная и холодная погода.

Мне кажется, в Норвегии было очень холодно, но у меня очень смутные воспоминания об этом, я не помню.

В Англии всегда считали,

что в Чехии  серо и холодно,

и, если вы туда собирались, то

окружающие, обычно, говорили: "Зачем ехать туда летом?

Почему бы не поехать куда-нибудь, где можно нормально отдохнуть?",

но на самом деле, это одно из самых жарких мест, где я бывала.

В Брно есть красивое озеро,

куда все ходят купаться, Там можно было бы искупаться, если бы оно не было таким грязным, с множеством кемпингов вокруг

и пивных.

Там мы хорошо отдохнули.

I think people in England

think Hungary is gray

and full of skyscrapers

and many socialist-style buildings.

They do not imagine that it could be hot,

or have, you know, nice countryside.

Мне кажется, англичане

думают, что Венгрия - серая,

в ней полно небоскребов

и много построек социалистического стиля.

Они даже не представляют, что там может быть жарко, или, что там может быть очень красивая местность.

In the USA I have only been to New England,

which was in many ways very similar to England, with the same sort of green landscape. I have not been anywhere really hot,

and don't have much inclination to.

I do miss the sea being in Hungary,

a land-locked country.

As soon as I went back to England in September last year,

I went straight to the seaside.

There's something that you feel being by the sea, I think, that I miss.

The air is so fresh, and it is very invigorating.

В США я была только в Новой Англии,

которая очень похожа на Англию,

с теми же зелеными пейзажами.

Я не была в настоящих жарких местах

и не особо собираюсь ехать туда.

В Венгрии я очень скучаю по морю,

это - континентальная страна.

Как только я приехала в Англию в прошлом году в сентябре,

так сразу же пошла к морю.

В море есть что-то, о чем постоянно скучаешь. Там воздух такой свежий и очень бодрящий.
