It was a beautiful tropical evening and the ocean breeze was blowing gently as I passed the town clock on my way to the train station.

I could see the train coming down the track.

As the engine slowly passed, I heard someone yell, “Hey, you! Would you like to come and ride up here with me?”

I looked up at the engine, and the driver gestured me to climb up beside him.

I was very excited as I hadn’t been inside the cab of a train before.

After we had pulled out of the station, the driver even taught me how to control the speed of the train. It wasn’t as difficult as I had thought.

We shared the driving as we drove through the darkness with the jungle on our left and the Panama Canal on our right. I had to pinch myself to make sure that I wasn’t dreaming.

I just wish that my camera had been working because I know that none of my friends will believe me when I tell them about my incredible experience — that I actually drove the night train to Panama!
